I am a senior majoring in Women and Gender Studies, with a double minor is Sexuality Studies and Education. I was born in Detroit, MI but moved to Alamance County, NC when I was 12. At UNC-CH, I am the Student Coordinator of the Gender Non-Specific Housing Coalition, Student Government External Appointment for UNC-CH Provost Committee on LGBTQ Life, and Outreach Co-Coordinator for UNC-CH Sexuality and Gender Alliance. When I am not in class or participating in extracurricular activities, I work at the UNC-CH LGBTQ Center. As an incoming first year, I was extremely interested in ways to get involved on campus.  This curiosity led me to join the UNC-CH LGBTQ Center volunteer committee to help plan Coming Out Week, Transgender Week of Awareness and Ally Week.  After such an amazing experience as a member of the volunteer committee, I decided to deepen my commitment as an intern doing research about Gender Non-Specific Housing.  This research led to me leading the Gender Non-Specific Housing Coalition, a collective of student organizations advocating and educating for the implementation of a Gender Non-Specific Housing Option at UNC-CH. Meanwhile, at the UNC-CH LGBTQ Center I had the opportunity to be a Safe Zone facilitator and a member of the Safe Zone Speakers Bureau. Both of which include educating people across campus how to be culturally competent and allies to members of the LGBTQI community. These opportunities have allowed me to grow as a person and learn about issues that impact all of our intersecting identities.  The climate at UNC-CH for LGBTQ individuals can be very hard at times but the UNC-CH LGBTQ Center is welcoming, affirming and fosters growth for students, faculty and staff regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
