After growing up in Raleigh, April went on to receive her BA from Sweet Briar College, her MA from the University of Kentucky, and her PhD from Purdue University. Before coming to UNC-CH, April taught classes on gender, sexuality, and privilege at Northern Kentucky University. She also worked as a facilitator and educator for GLSEN, a national organization dedicated to providing safe K-12 experiences for individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. April has published several peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from bisexuality to queer theory to homophobia in fanfiction. April lives with her partner, Steve, and her two huskies, Pandemonium and I-Chaya.
