Bi Visibility Day, also known as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day, has been marked on September 23rd each year since 1999 to highlight biphobia and to help people find the bisexual community. (http://www.bivisibilityday.com) We celebrate Bisexual Pride and Awareness at Carolina as close to this international observance as possible. This year, we're celebrating with two days of education and community-building!
Safe Zone Continuing Education: Bisexuality
Tuesday 9/22 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
Safe Zone trainees can register for Zoom link.
Just in time for Bi Pride Day, we're rolling out our newest Safe Zone Continuing Education training! Anyone who has completed our foundational trainings (Safe Zone: Standard and/or Safe Zone: Health Care) is eligible to attend. This two-hour training designed to make the University community a safer and more supportive place for all Carolina students, faculty, and staff members by creating a network of allies who have basic knowledge about bisexual identities and communities.
Biphobia: Stereotypes and Erasure
Tuesday 9/22 from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
Open to everyone; centering Bisexual-identifying students, faculty, and staff. Register on Heel Life for Zoom link.
Join us for a presentation and discussion on biphobia, focused on the stereotyping of bisexual people, as well as the erasure of bisexual experiences. This event will start with a discussion of the academic
literature on biphobia, illuminating what researchers have found on the topic over the last 30 years. We'll then move on to a facilitated discussion, allowing bisexual individuals to discuss the impact that biphobia has had on their lives. While this event is open to everyone, it was created specifically for bisexual students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Wednesday 9/23 from 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
Open to Bisexual-identifying students. Register on Heel Life for Zoom link.
Join other bisexual people and their affirming loved ones for a night of discussion and games. We'll be talking about the best aspects of being bisexual, as well as playing online games such as pictionary. Drop in at any point. If you're feeling introverted, feel free to leave your camera and mic off!
