Pride Week 2019: April 8 - 12

Pride Week 2019: April 8 - 12

Pride Week is a partnership between the LGBTQ Center, student organizations and University departments across campus that focus on inclusivity and/or advocacy related to gender and sexual diversity. Together we put on social and educational events to build community for LGBTIQA+ and allied campus communities.

On Monday, events kick-off with T-shirt Tie Dying in SASB Courtyard (SASB Upendo rain location) from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Afterwards, jon UNC SAGA at Queer Trivia for all ages at Linda's Bar and Grill from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

Tuesday will start with an Interfaith Prayer for LGBTQIA+ resilience, hosted by the new student organization Queer People of Faith in The Gift Plaza from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. In the evening, students are invited to join two opportunities to gather over free food: oSTEM and queer_hack will host a screening of The Imitation Game with free pizza from 5:30pm - 8:30pm.

Wednesday evening is packed with Pride events: Visualize LGBTQ Identity in the EU with UNC SAGA and the Center for European Studies from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, then make your way to the Cobb Residence Hall Game Room to make your own custom buttons with Pride Place and BEAM Makerspace from 7:00pm - 8:00pm. Wear your new swag to Queer Karaoke with UNC SAGA from 9:00pm to 11:00pm at Local 506!

On Thursday STEM Pride of the Triangle will host Dr. Seth Sullivant, Professor of Mathematics at NCSU, for their Queer Perspective Series on being openly-queer identified in a STEM Field from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Afterwards, head on over to Cobb Residence Hall Movie Room for a screening of Pose, hosted by UNC Campus Y and UNC QTPOC. At 6:00pm the Queer Graduate and Professional Students (QGAPS) initiative invites students from all schools, departments, or programs to enjoy free appetizers at a Pride Mixer in TOPO's Back Bar. This mixer is co-hosted by The Graduate School Diversity and Student Success, the LGBTQ Center, School of Medicine QSA, Kenan-Flagler Pride Club, Lambda Legal Students Association, and STEM Pride of the Triangle.

Friday brings the bittersweet end of Pride Week with our final events: Pride Field Day hosted by Carolina Advocating for Gender Equity (CAGE) from 12:00pm - 2:00pm (rain date: Tuesday, April 16th) will feature classic games, free food, music and much more. That evening, we invite you to join us at Queer Prom: Enchanted Forest for a night of food, dancing, or lingering awkwardly near the walls. There will be music, a photo booth, and a chance to dress however makes you feel fancy! This is a free and open event-no tickets or advanced registration required.
