Graduate and Professional Students

The LGBTQ Center and The Graduate School partner to provide opportunities and resources for our LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual)-identified graduate and professional students to aid in their academic success and to build community.

Some of these include:

QGAPS Social (Formerly GP-SHAH)

The LGBTQ Center hosts a social hour (and a half) twice a  month at various locations in Carrboro and Chapel Hill for graduate and professional students and friends. Visit the Events Calendar, "like" our Facebook page, or subscribe to our listserv in order to stay updated on upcoming G-SHAH dates and locations. Come take a break and meet fellow graduate and professional students at the next G-SHAH. All graduate and professional students, friends, family and partners are welcome to attend!

LGBTIQA+ Speaker Series (Formerly Graduate Speaker Series)

The LGBTQ Center, Graduate & Professional Student Federation, Program in Sexuality Studies, and the Graduate School are co-sponsoring this speaker series to share the work of graduate & professional students, UNC faculty, and local researchers conducting research related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

If you are conducting LGBTQ-related research and are interested in presenting as part of this series in the 2017-2018 school year, please email our Graduate and Professional Student Program Coordinator at erincase@live.unc.edu.

For more information, see the Series page or check out our Events Calendar.

Safe Zone Training

The LGBTQ Center sponsors a specialized Safe Zone training specifically geared towards graduate and professional students, instructors, postdocs, and faculty.  Completion of this training will equip you with many of the concrete skills and resources you'll need to be an ally to students and colleagues of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

Stay tuned for a Graduate and Professional Student Safe Zone training in late Fall 2018 or early Spring 2019.
