Graduate and Professional Students

Every year on National Coming Out Day (NCOD), we celebrate coming out as part of the diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender intersex, queer, asexual, Two-Spirit, Same Gender Loving, Pansexual, Asexual community by being visible and affirming others' right to be safely visible in their identities. At UNC-Chapel Hill, that means celebrating our pride and allyship* in the pit, learning about LGBTIQA+ history and communities, and building community across experiences.

There are plenty of ways to get involved for NCOD 2017:

Pride Week at Carolina

About Pride Week

The LGBTQ Center is partnering with other campus organizations to host Pride Week at Carolina from April 6th to 13th, 2021.

Promotional Image for LGBTQ Center AmbassadorsAmbassadors help LGBTQ Center staff plan and host welcoming events for LGBTQIA+ students at Carolina. Everyone is welcome to participate as often and in the ways they are most comfortable. Duties include:

Book Club Event PostThe LGBTQ Center Book Club is a twice-monthly meeting of lit nerds and casual readers who love to discuss books, fanfic, and other readings with LGBTQIA+ themes. We meet on a pattern of suggesting books on the 1st Friday and meeting to discuss the group's chosen work(s) on the 3rd Friday.

QGAPS Social is a bi-monthly gathering for LGBTQIA+ graduate and professional students. It's a chance for folks to connect, come together, and build community. Friends and family are welcome to join! If you have any questions or accessibility needs, please contact Jay Jayaraman, Graduate and Professional Student Program Coordinator, at meerajay@email.unc.edu

Join us for a special welcome back event, a game night with Jackbox games featured!

Join us as we bake for the holidays! Make cookies, cupcakes, or other sweet treats while catching up with friends. Even if you don't bake, come by to hang out and see what other people are making.

This event will be affirming, but will not focus on LGBTIQA+ themes. We ask participants to help keep this boundary to avoid outing our friends who are living in unsupportive environments.  For example, consider what is in your zoom background when participating in this event.

National Coming Out Day ... but make it a week! October 10 - 16, 2020. go.unc.edu

National Coming Out Day commemorates the October 11, 1987 Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, which called for President Ronald Reagan to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

This year, National Coming Out Day falls on a Sunday, but the LGBTQ Center and other campus orgs are planning over a week of events to bookend the national observance!

Visit the official National Coming Out Day 2020 at Carolina webpage for up-to-date event calendar. Schedule is subject to change.
