Educating for Equality
The purpose of the LGBTQ Center Safe Zone program is to create a network of allies for individuals who may be marginalized on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. All UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff, and students are eligible to become Safe Zone trainees. Training sessions take place several times a semester, and customized Safe Zone trainings can be scheduled with the LGBTQ Center on behalf of any department, group, or organization.

Join the UNC LGBTQ Center in celebrating Black History Month with a discussion of Daniel Black’s Isaac’s Song, a novel exploring a complicated father-son relationship in the backdrop of 1980s Chicago. We’ll be meeting on Thursday, February 26 from 5pm-6:30pm to explore the themes of love, familial relationships, and generational trauma present in Black’s powerful work over some light refreshments. On February 9 from 11am-2pm, we’ll have a low-sensory space with slime making, refreshments, and cozy activities to make the most of your wellness day. Bone-jour! Are you looking to create community and get involved on campus? Stop by the UNC LGBTQ Center on Friday, January 16 at 2:30pm for our B.O.N.E.S. Student Ambassador interest meeting! Students who join our “Skeleton Crew” have the opportunity to be part of a core team for the LGBTQ Center: building connections, supporting Center events and activities, developing leadership skills, and fostering campus-wide community.
