Educating for Equality

The purpose of the LGBTQ Center Safe Zone program is to create a network of allies for individuals who may be marginalized on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. All UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff, and students are eligible to become Safe Zone trainees. Training sessions take place several times a semester, and customized Safe Zone trainings can be scheduled with the LGBTQ Center on behalf of any department, group, or organization.

Reading days aren't just for studying -- pick up a book from the Center Library! π For our next Library Highlight, we are spotlighting The Danish Girl. The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff is a moving and unforgettable novel that explores gender, identity, and love. The book was inspired by the true story of Lili Elbe, one of the first people to undergo gender confirmation surgery. The story follows Einar Wegener, a Danish painter who gradually discovers and embraces her identity as Lili. As Lili went through her transition, her relationship with her wife, Greta, evolved in complex and emotional ways. The LGBTQ Center Library is open to any UNC community member with a PID. Swing by the Center and check it out! π³
