Showing Out Despite the Snow!

Welcome back everyone! We here at the LGBTQ Center have dug ourselves out of the snow and ice and are happy to be back. We have a Spring calendar chock full of events to get you connected to community and beyond!

But first, January is not without its awareness days. Right at the beginning of the month was an important one.

January 7th is honored as International Day to End Conversion Therapy. IDECT has its roots in 2022 Canadian legislation banning conversion therapy on the federal level. An Ontario-based nonprofit for conversion therapy survivors named C.T. Survivors Connect partnered with the international group The Conversion Therapy Survivor Network to commemorate this victory, honoring those that fought to end conversion therapy in Canada and those that are still fighting worldwide.

Regardless of how you choose to learn about the International Day to End Conversion Therapy, a daily practice you can implement is to be welcoming and affirming to everyone you meet. And hey, there’s a new year’s resolution!

To get through the rest of these cold days, spread the warmth you receive from your friends, family, and community. The LGBTQ Center will have plenty of opportunities to connect with each other this Spring – regular crafternoons, educational programming, a stacked Pride Week 2026, and a celebratory Lavender Graduation – so stay tuned on our newsletter and socials!

Welcome back Tar Heels!
