Coming up on September 18 is National HIV/AIDS & Aging Awareness Day. Did you know that in 2022, individuals aged 50 and older comprised over 54% of those living with HIV in the United States (HealthHIV State of Aging with HIV Fourth Annual National Survey)? People Aging with HIV (PAWH) may find that they have specific concerns that go unaddressed by the current care networks for older adults.

Next week is Bisexual+ Awareness Week, which has its cornerstone on Celebrate Bisexuality Day on September 23! Beginning in 1999, Celebrate Bisexuality Day (also known as Bi Visibility Day) will be entering its 27th year this year. The term “Bi+” is used to encapsulate all the identities that can can be described as “attraction to more than one gender.”

Lastly, September 27 is National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. An important organization to be aware of for this Awareness Day is GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis), which began as a meeting of friends and colleagues in writer Larry Kramer’s apartment in 1981. The founding of GMHC is an important reminder: being the help someone needs can start small, by finding the community you yourself need.
